Word Sharpeners Week – February 23, 2015

Pelican

Word Sharpener News: This week, my Christmas Novella, A Christmas Promise is free on the Pelican Book Group Site along with over 200 other e-books.

I’m in Tennessee right now visiting my grandkids, so I’m having fun. I’ll be back in Ohio tomorrow though. I don’t look forward to coming back to all that snow. Here’s a picture of them with their dad, my son.

Holidays This Week:

There aren’t any holidays to speak of this week, but here are a few.

February 25 EDSU Revolution Day celebrates when the Philippines overthrew their government and became a democracy in 1986.

Other Holidays This Week:

  • Feb.26 – Tell a Fairy Tale Day
  • Feb. 28 – National Tooth Fairy Day
  • March 1 – National Pig Day (It’s a good day to eat bacon.)

Christian SymbolThis week’s Word Sharpeners is in honor of our Christian brother and sisters around the world who are being slaughtered for their faith. This symbol is the letter N in Arabic and stands for Nazarene. It is used by ISIS to target Christians. I use the symbol to honor and remember them.

Quote of the Week:  “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot loose.”  — Jim Elliot, missionary and martyr

Verse of the Week: Hebrews 11:37-38 (NIV)  They were put to death by stoning;[e] they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated. The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.

Song of the Week: Worth It All by Rita Springer (The video drama shown here is as powerful as the song.)

Hymn of the Week: A Mighty Fortress by Martin Luther

Life Challenge: My Challenge for you today is to pray for the persecuted church and to stand for Christ even in the face of persecution.

Read more about the persecuted church at Voice of the Martyrs.
