Word Sharpener Week – February 16, 2015

Happy President’s Day!

When I was young, we used to celebrate one day for Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and another for George Washington’s birthday. Now we celebrate one day for all the presidents. I’m not sure that’s a better way to go. I’m convinced that society lifts up those who are famous but immoral instead of honoring our heroes. One day for all of our president, both good and bad, seems to negate that.

February 18 Ash Wednesday, also known as the beginning of Lent, is the day when millions of Christians will give up something or fast to dedicate themselves to God for 40 day before Easter when Christ rose from the grave. Today will focus on following Christ and walking in His Steps.

Other Holidays This Week:

  • Feb.17 – Mardi Gras (also known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day)
  • Feb. 19 – Chinese New Year
  • Feb. 20 – Hoody Hoo Day
  • Feb. 22 – President Washington’s Birthday

Word Sharpener News: This week, I’ve sent my Resurrection of Hope novel (circa 1919-1920) to my agent, so hopefully it will find a publisher soon.

AsherSaturday, February 21st is my grandson Asher’s 6th birthday. He’s growing up so fast. Isn’t he a cutie?

V & DSunday, February 22nd is my daughter’s birthday. Veronica Lynn Harris has recently married and will be celebrating this birthday with her new husband. I’m so proud of her.

Quote of the Week:  “Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.”  — Andrew Murray

Verse of the Week: 1 Peter 2:21  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His Steps.

Song of the Week: Live With Abandon by Newsboys

Hymn of the Week: I Have Decided to Follow Jesus

Video of the Week: What is the Cost of Following Jesus

Life Challenge: During Lent, consider what it costs to follow Jesus. Are you willing to follow Christ and follow in His Steps.
