Word Sharpener Week – February 9, 2015

kindlefire(19)Happy Toothache Day!

Ouch! Can you believe there’s actually a day to celebrate toothaches? No thank you. But at least there are some other great Holidays this week.

Other Holidays This Week:

Saturday, February 14th – Valentines’ Day

That’s more like it. A day for romance. Valentines Day celebrates the life of Saint Valentine who was beheaded by Roman Emperor Claudius II in 269 AD. Apparently Claudius was upset because men weren’t signing up to go off to war. He decided the reason was because they were too attached to their wives and outlawed marriage. Valentine, a Christian bishop, decided to protect the sanctity of marriage and continued to marry Christian couples. Claudius had Valentine arrested, and when Valentine tried share the Gospel with him, Claudius had Valentine beheaded. But Valentine did encourage romance and marriage between a man and a woman, so let’s celebrate by having a nice romantic evening with our spouses.

  • Feb.10 – National Umbrella Day
  • Feb. 11 – Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day
  • Feb. 12 – Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday & Plum Pudding Day (I wonder if Lincoln liked plum pudding.)
  • Feb. 13 – Get a Different Name Day (Today I’ll call myself Zoe.)
  • Feb. 14 – Valentines Day and Ferris Wheel Day
  • Feb. 15 – National Flag Day for Canada, also National Gumdrop Day (yum)

Word Sharpener News: Sunday is my grandson’s eighth birthday. He is a very special young man, and I’m proud of him. Happy Birthday, Jak.

Quote of the Week: Doubt thou the stars are fire, Doubt that the sun doth move. Doubt truth to be a liar, But never doubt I love. — William Shakespeare

Verse of the Week:  Romans 8:37-39  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Song of the Week: How He Loves Us by Kim Walker – Smith (This is the original version that is not politically correct.)

Hymn of the Week: The Love of God (1911) by Frederick Lehman and Claudia L. Mays, Sung by Mercy Me
